What to include.

The first message that gets fast, useful traction tends to share these five things. None are mandatory; all save a round of back-and-forth.

  1. The question.

In one or two sentences, what do you want to know? “Is the operator at X coordinates leaking methane?” is better than “We are interested in emissions surveillance.”

  2. The timeline.

Is this a four-week question, a six-month investigation, or an ongoing watch? Hard deadlines (court date, board meeting, fire season) belong here.

  3. The geography.

Approximate area of interest. County, watershed, asset list, port, or bounding box — whatever level you can share at first contact.

  4. The constraints.

Procurement vehicle limits, NDA requirements, data residency, deliverable format. Better to surface these now than at week six.

  5. The budget posture.

Not a number — a posture. Are you exploring whether this is feasible, scoping for a specific funded line, or pre-RFP discovery? We calibrate accordingly.

From your first message to a signed engagement — the typical path.

STEP 01
First message.

You send the email. We acknowledge receipt within one business day. If we cannot help, we say so plainly and try to point you toward someone who can.

≤ 24 hours
STEP 02
First call.

Thirty minutes, no charge. Clarify the question, the constraints, and whether a pilot makes sense. NDA in place beforehand if your context requires it.

30 minutes
STEP 03
Scoping memo.

A written one-pager: what we propose to deliver, what we will not deliver, what data we need from you, timeline, fixed price. Yours to share with whomever signs.

3–5 business days
STEP 04
Pilot kickoff.

Engagement letter signed. Named analyst assigned. Cadenced check-ins on a schedule we agree before we start.

Within 2 weeks of memo

Send the message.

You will not get a sales sequence, a drip campaign, or a calendar widget designed to capture your time without commitment. You will get a written reply from a person within two business days.
